Rihanna Blames Multi-Million Dollar Loss on Accountant

Popular singer Rihanna claims that her accountant at Berdon LLP played a big part in leaving her ‘effectively bankrupt’ in 2009.

She believes that her former accountant’s decisions led to her ending the year with a significantly lower net worth. Court papers indicated that she began the year with $11 million and ended the year with $2 million. During that same time frame, her expenses doubled. Rihanna filed her lawsuit against her accountant in 2012.

The pop singer whose real name is Robyn Fenty says that accountant Peter Gounis gave bad advice when he recommended the purchase of a Beverly Hills mansion in 2009. Court papers say “In 2009, Ms. Fenty was ‘running out of cash’ and Mr.  Gounis knew this. Ms. Fenty’s accounts were so diminished that requested wire transfers would not go through. In fact, Ms. Fenty was effectively bankrupt at the end of 2009.”

The mansion was a bad deal for multiple reasons including physical problems like mold and leaks. She sold it for a $2 million loss. She fired her accountant in 2010.

Thomas Manisero, lawyer for Berdon LLP says “These allegations are false. Berdon acted properly concerning Ms. Fenty.”
